Instrumented Axial-Flow Threshing Test Unit
Single-rotor laboratory combine cylinder with adjustable concave grate and variable-speed drive.
Determine the effect of threshing drum peripheral speed on grain separation efficiency and unthreshed grain loss in an axial-flow combine threshing mechanism. Explore interactive farm machinery simulation, irrigation hydraulics, and agricultural engineering telemetry.
Ready to sample with Velocity v_c = 26.0 m/s.
Adjust Velocity v_c, then execute agricultural trial.
Agricultural engineering telemetry and biosystems states are evaluated rigorously using 64-bit IEEE 754 precision. Residuals reflect ordinary least-squares regression across successive observations. Continuous data structures support high-fidelity agricultural and environmental modeling.
Tested with wheat; crops with delicate seed coats (e.g., soybeans, edible dry beans) require much lower peripheral speeds (10 to 18 m/s). Evaluated using conditioned wheat sheaves (grain moisture 13.5% d.b.) at constant concave clearance of 12 mm inlet / 6 mm outlet.
Single-rotor laboratory combine cylinder with adjustable concave grate and variable-speed drive.
Regulates cylinder rotational speed from 400 to 900 RPM with 1.0 RPM digital feedback.
Captures separated grain and chaff passing through the concave bars.
Traps all expelled straw and unthreshed seed heads for manual loss auditing.
Weighs separated grain, unthreshed grain, and straw fractions with 0.1 g accuracy.
Quantifies mechanical kernel damage and pericarp cracking using tetrazolium staining.
Determine the effect of threshing drum peripheral speed on grain separation efficiency and unthreshed grain loss in an axial-flow combine threshing mechanism. Standardized parameter settings: 20.0, 22.4, 24.8, 27.2, 29.6, 32.0 m/s.
Set the front concave inlet clearance to 12.0 mm and the rear outlet clearance to 6.0 mm using feeler thickness gauges, locking the adjustment lever.
Prepare uniform 10.0 kg batches of conditioned wheat sheaves with known grain-to-straw ratio (approximately 1:1.2).
Set rotor peripheral velocity to v_c = 20.0 m/s (rotor speed 510 RPM on 75 cm diameter cylinder), allowing the motor to stabilize at idle.
Feed the 10.0 kg wheat batch uniformly onto the feed conveyor over exactly 15 seconds, collecting all concave-separated material and straw discharge.
Clean and weigh all grain separated through the concave (m_sep), hand-thresh all remaining unthreshed heads in the straw to find unthreshed loss (m_loss), and compute separation percentage E_t = m_sep / (m_sep + m_loss) × 100%.
Repeat testing across velocities of 22.4, 24.8, 27.2, 29.6, and 32.0 m/s, plotting E_t versus v_c and evaluating kernel mechanical damage.
Points are your recorded observations. The solid regression line validates Threshing Cylinder Efficiency mathematical scaling.
